Trainings & Workshops for 2025

Welcome.

I am very excited to be offering a variety of professional development opportunities for a wide variety of professionals. Each opportunity below speaks to exercise for mental health but will take a varied approach based upon the field you are working in. Currently, I am taking registration for exercise professionals interested in the course offered in June and for mental health practitioners interested in integrating exercise into mental health practice.  Be sure to scroll down to find the course you are interested in. For any questions, concerns, or confirmations, please do not hesitate to reach out via text, email, or phone.

Integrating Exercise into Clinical Practice
Module One

Are you a mental health clinician looking to expand your tool box while working in collaboration with other professionals in your community? This online training is designed for the mental health practitioner and will explore the relationship between neuropsychology, exercise, and a wide variety of mental health challenges. We will review exercise as an evidence-based, bottom-up approach to mental health support and treatment. Learners will leave with the understanding of the relationship between exercise and the autonomic nervous system, exercise science, and a template for integrating exercise into practice. We will also take a deep dive into the theories and strategies related to exercise psychology in the support of client's long-term relationship with exercise.

When paired with module two, this training will provide the mental health clinician with the background knowledge and considerations for the integration of exercise into clinical practice while respecting scope of practice. This training program will also take time to explore our personal beliefs and attitudes towards exercise while challenging the beliefs that originate from fitness culture to promote a healthy longterm relationship with movement. If you are interested in learning more about a modality that is now understood as an evidence based practice for the treatment of depression (among other challenges), this course is for you!

Module one and two of this program is supported by the book, "Exercise [Your Way] to Better Mental Health" (see more information at www.exerciseyourway.ca. If you would like to include the price of this book (including shipping) the fee for this course will be $655 (including GST) or $600 without the book. This fee has been reduced by almost 50% to introduce this program and offer participants the opportunity to provide feedback for future courses.

Exercise for Mental Health
(for exercise leaders)

Are you interested in expanding your services and career as a fitness instructor or personal trainer? There is a growing interest among fitness professionals to integrate exercise prescription for mental health while supporting the psychological safety of clients in exercise spaces. This 7-hour training event will provide you with the knowledge to not only create safety but tailor exercise programs to suit clients with depression, anxiety, and everything in between. Additionally, you will leave with the tools needed to strengthen exercise adherence while working in tandem with mental health professionals in your community.

Topics will include; understanding the neuroscience of mental health, addressing the truth and falsehoods of what we know about mental health, exercise psychology, and the barriers of fitness culture to participation and inclusion, and detailed exercise prescriptions for the support of mental health. Most importantly, you will leave with the knowledge and understanding of how to collaborate with mental health practitioners while respecting your professional scope of practice.
