I work with adults challenged with mental health issues relating to depression, anxiety, anger, grief, trauma, chronic pain and more. I specialize in disordered eating with a focus on binge/purge, emotional, and orthorexia (an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating). I work individually with adults dealing with a wide variety of issues including depression, anxiety, anger, grief, sexuality, sexual assault and workplace harassment, dissociative disorders, chronic pain management and health counselling. I have specialized in trauma therapy and am a certified EMDR therapist and trained in Somatic/Attachment therapy.
When appropriate, I integrate exercise prescription for a wide variety of mental health challenges with a focus on anxiety and depression. Most importantly, I focus on providing "real life" exercise strategies that include action planning and creating a program suited to your specific needs and lifestyle.
There is a healing power to social connection and sharing experiences with others who share similar experiences. Groups offer a combination of education, sharing and support, and group therapy.
Every season, I offer a few workshops related to eating, body, exercise, and mental health. Coming in 2023 I will be offering Bibliotherapy (a fancy word for mental health book club). Check out the "groups" page for more information or go to the link provided:
Disordered Eating and Body Image
If you struggle with food restriction, binge eating, constant thoughts of food or shame related to food and body, you are not alone. Diet culture promotes these behaviours and tells us we are not okay or healthy unless we reach a particular size.
I have over 12 years experience in coaching and facilitation of eating psychology (a focus on why we eat what we eat). In my experience, it is through this. understanding that we can begin to make change. I integrate a blend of intuitive eating and the promotion of health through food.
I have committed my career to the promotion of health at any size and to kicking diet culture's ass. From academic and athletic performance, business leadership, or kicking the fear of public speaking, I offer coaching/counselling services that will enhance overall human performance. I integrate both coaching, counselling strategies, and can apply EMDR protocols to help athletes and anyone else interested in strengthening performance based skills.
My background in kinesiology and exercise and sports psychology (combined with my own athletic experiences) enables me to support those in team and individual sports work through performance anxiety, the depression that sometimes comes with athletic injury or retirement, and other pressures of competition including potential disordered eating and over exercise that sometimes shows up.
